Canadian web series performers big winners at New York’s Stareable Fest

Canadian web series were winners at the inaugural Stareable Fest Awards Ceremony on Sunday night in New York.

Eleven Canadian web series were selected to participate in the official competition.  In addition, a Best of Canada special screening session was curated and featured seven additional out-of-competition web series.  A delegation of a dozen Canadian creator/producers attended Stareable Fest and met with local guests and platform representatives at a special lunch in their honour .

The Independent Production Fund (IPF) and the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) partnered to sponsor the delegation and the spotlight on Best of Canada.  Most of the winning series had also received production financing from the IPF and/or the OMDC.

The IPF finances the production of Canadian short form scripted web series. It has invested $13M in 120 series since 2010.  It also undertakes professional development and promotional activities.

The OMDC is an agency of the Government of Ontario, Canada. It supports the province’s creative economy by providing innovative programs, services and funding for the film & television; book & magazine publishing; interactive digital media & music industries.

 

Stareable Fest (festival.stareable.com) is a new industry marketplace and creator convention, with workshops, panels , screenings and awards for independent producers of web series content, held in New York city  July 20-22.
